Swain Community Outreach is a local option for:

  • Mental Health and Substance Use Assessment and Treatment for adults, children and families

  • Growing services by partnering with other agencies to expand services here in Swain County

  • Providing social work case management, linkage and education

    We are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) Corporation. As such we have a board of directors who oversee our ‘big picture.’ If you are interested in joining our board- please reach out. We are also required to provide a copy of our 990 tax form and exemption application (form 1023) for inspection upon request. If you are interested, just let us know.

Therapy

We offer mental health and substance use services for children, adults and families. In fact, we believe serving the whole family is vital. We work from a system’s perspective and acknowledge that each member of a family affects the other and the system as a whole. We offer an array of treatment modalities to address different symptoms including:

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Adapted TF-CFT

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Seeking Safety

  • LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Prime for Life (group or individual) Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Brief Strategic Family Therapy Cognitive Processing Therapy

Community Outreach

We want to grow inclusive services in Swain County. This means linking/joining with existing agencies in neighboring counties to bring these services closer to us. Services and partnerships could include:

  • partnering with YouthOutright

  • partnering with WNCCAP

  • partnering with Restoration House

  • providing fentanyl testing strips and Narcan

  • applying the empowerment model community organizing

  • mental health education

  • Contracting with AWAKE for child abuse specific therapy

  • Listed on the Blue Ridge Pride directory of LGBTQ affirming and inclusive therapists

Outreach also means identifying and meeting the needs in our community that other agencies are unable to meet. Outreach means organizing community. It means advocating for our community members. And it means providing education to help reduce the stigma (s) affecting our community.
